Our story

A two-person studio in Portland

Bumbleweb began at a kitchen table with a secondhand wheel. Today we work from a small studio on Division Street, making the pieces we wanted for our own table: simple, sturdy and a pleasure to hold.

We want our pieces to be used every day, chipped a little, and loved for years.

How a mug is made

  1. Thrown

Each mug is shaped on the wheel from a pound of stoneware clay.

  2. Trimmed and handled

A day later we trim the foot and pull the handle by hand.

  3. Fired twice

A bisque firing, then glazing and a final firing to 2,232°F.
